Anger management for assault case

A Mountmellick man who pushed his girlfriend’s mother causing bruising to her arms has been told to do an anger management course.

David Byrne, 4 Emmet Street, Mountmellick, committed the offence at 58 Pattisons Estate, Mountmellick, on May 13 last year. Judge Catherine Staines put the matter back in April to May 15 for a victim impact statement.

When the case returned recently, defence, Mr Philip Meagher handed in “a heartfelt letter to the court”.

“He appreciates the impact his behaviour has had, and is taking the matter very seriously,” said Mr Meagher.

Judge Staines asked whether Byrne was willing to do an anger management course, to which Byrne himself replied he was.

The matter was put back to July 10 for a probation report, and for Byrne to complete the anger management course.
