There was a number of break ins to houses on the Mountrath Road while the public lights were not working, according to Councillor Matthew Keegan.
Cllr Keegan asked why the lights took so long to be repaired at last week’s meeting of Portlaoise Town Council.
“The lights were out for a considerable length of time and there was a number of break-ins while they were out. They were very slow to be repaired,” he said.
Engineer, Tom O’Carroll said the lights were now repaired. He said it was a major fault and that was why it took so long to be repaired.
Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald said it was very dark when the lights were out.
“It was extremely dangerous, you couldn’t see the roundabout. The lights were out for five days.”
