Laois Civil Defence officer Liam Preston has praised his volunteers and the public for battling against last Wednesday’s weather.
“The amount of people that came out and helped us, farmers, companies with heavy lifting machinery, a whole cross section,” he said.
About 28 Civil Defence volunteers backed up the fire service by attending fallen trees, and monitoring flood levels in rivers.
“It’s a community effort. It is unbelievable the work they do, selfless. It was difficult for everyone, thankfully no-one was hurt or injured. The rivers have been in flood since December but luckily floodplains have taken the water so far,” said Mr Preston.
