County Manager Peter Carey is hoping Laois’ new Minister will advance projects for the county.
“I wishto congratulate Dep Charlie Flanagan on his appointment as Minister. It is a great honour personally for him and certainly for Laois to be represented at the Cabinet table.
We look forward to supporting Minister Flanagan in his new post and to working with him on projects for the advancement of Laois,” said Mr Carey.
On Minister Flanagan’s Facebook page, people quickly made their child-related issues known to him.
Amanda Kenny-allen congratulated him.
“ You sat for a long time on the back bench. I hope now that you are Minister you will look in to all aspects of a child’s life, and not let children be taken into care, help in the home would be more supportive for the families. Also what about all the lost children the state has forgotten, the adoptees who have no true identities, I along with all other adoptees, want my birth name and my original birth cert,” she wrote.
Gillian Powell said “Congratulations Minister, now a half decent wage for preschool teachers, please make that a priority”.
Mairead McDonald asked for respite care homes to be opened every week.
“What is the point in having them closed every two weeks every month. At all times it is a human right to care and retain dignity to all the children and young adults whom are so deserving of this care. I look forward to seeing this happen sooner than later. Good luck in your position,” she wrote.
Georgina Ireland Cathcart raised mental health issues. “Please remember your own constituency Charlie, when allocating badly needed funds for youth and specifically youth mental health projects,” she said.
