County set to lose its top official

Laois’ county manager Peter Carey is to leave his post in the county to take up the top job in Kildare.

Just like his predecessor Michael Malone, who left Laois for Kildare, it emerged last week that the popular public servant would be vacating the post.

While the move is being rubber stamped, the county manager was remaining tight-lipped on the move when asked about the change by the Leinster Express until formalities were concluded.

Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council, Mary Sweeney praised Mr Carey.

“As chair of the county council, I found him to be always very willing to engage on any topic and a very good manager of staff... His strength was his engagement with staff and the people of Laois,” she said.

Praising the role played Sen John Whelan said: “It will be Laois’s loss and Kildare’s gain. He was a very good county manager.”
