A DRIVER who was found to have a cocktail of drugs in his system was put off the road for six years at last week's sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
Jonathan Boyhan, with addresses at Castle Street and 22 Sean Doire, Cork Road in Durrow, was charged with drunken driving at Sean Doire on March 10, 2007 and at Knocknamoe, Durrow on December 16. The accused had traces of cannabis, opiates and cocaine in his system on both occasions. He also faced charges of no driving licence, failure to produce driving licence, and non display of insurance disc on May 17, 2007.
Defence solicitor Philip Meagher said his client had received help from his family and resolved his difficulties. He did a 20 week course at the Cuain Mhuire addiction treatment centre last year. Since then he has completed a FS course and is now working in scaffolding.
"He would like to think that he has turned over a new leaf and continues to get after-care," Mr Meagher said.
A six year driving disqualification was imposed on each of the drink driving charges along with total fines of n500.
