A Durrow woman stopped by gardaí for speeding who subsequently failed to pay a fixed penalty notice was convicted and fined at a recent sitting of the district court in Portlaoise.
Before a December sitting of the court was Julieanne Walsh, with an address listed at Bishopswood, Durrow.
She was charged with exceeding the speed limit, at Ballyroan on April 2 last year.
Evidence was given to the court by Inspector Aidan Farrelly.
Insp Farrelly said that on the day, Walsh was observed driving at speed “in an inappropriate manner”.
“She didn’t reduce her speed,” said the inspector.
Defence, Mr Declan Breen said his client had been “involved in a driving incident” on the day.
After being stopped by the gardaí, Walsh got a job in Cork and forgot to notify the authorities of her change of address.
“She tried to pay on June 4, but it was too late,” said Mr Breen.
Judge Catherine Staines remarked that Walsh had been speeding and had known about the fixed penalty notice. She convicted and fined Walsh €200.
