Families grateful for the gift of life

Just two weeks ago a young man, Niall McAuliffe, from Abbeyleix received a kidney transplant within eight days after his uncle Peader was also called for a kidney transplant.

Niall’s sister Anne donated a kidney to another one of his brothers Eddie a few years ago. The kidneys of one other brother, Robbie, are failing and he will be commencing dialysis in the near future.

The family are very grateful to donor families for the ‘gift of life’ and would be happy to share their story and be photographed.

Niall participated in the European Transplant and Dialysis Games in 2012. Himself and his brother are looking forward to the World Transplant Games in Argentina next year.

During Organ Donor Awareness week volunteers from the Laois Kidney Association will distribute donor cards at various outlets throughout the county. They will also be selling small items to help raise funds for local patients, many of whom are unable to work due to their illness.

All collectors are volunteers and receive no payment or expenses. The Laois branchy thanks you in advance for support. Further details contact Martin at 087-2535087
