One of Fianna Fáil’s top officials has visited Portlaoise to help sort out problems with the selection of candidates in the Local Elections.
The party’s HQ has confirmed that Seán Dorgan, General Secretary, visit Portlaoise last Monday, and met with a number of councillors and candidates as well as members from officer boards in all the local electoral areas.
It also said that the situation regarding two of its outgoing councillors, Cllrs Ray Cribben and Paddy Bracken, “is under consideration by the National Constituencies Committee and an announcement will be made in due course”.
Neither councillors were selected at the local convention which was based one member one vote system.
This week Cllr Cribben took out a campaign ad in the Leinster Express which made no reference to his party. Both himself and Cllr Bracken have already said they will run as independents if not selected by FF.
The first selection convention in Cllr Cribben’s area of Portarlington was abandoned in a dispute over the selection process.
