Judge Staines last week refused jurisdiction in the case of four men charged with affray.

Christopher Nevin, Westmeath; Anthony Cawley, 1 Derrycloney, Mountmellick; Hugh Nevin, 18 Silverbrook, Mountmellick; and John Nevin, 117 Blackcastle Lodge, Flowerhill, Navan, were charged with affray at College Avenue, Mountmellick, on August 20, 2012.

Inspector Declan Dunne told the court there were various assaults committed and iron bars were used, with people knocked to the ground and kicked in “a general melee” which left one person requiring seven stitches.

The matter has gone back to May 8 for the serving of a book of evidence.
