The prestigious Heritage Golf Club in Killenard has been sold for over €2million, in a deal which should secure jobs at this property which was under the control of NAMA.
John Dunne, proprietor of Hume Auctioneers, has confirmed that a sale has been agreed for the magnificent Seve Ballesteros Gold Course in Killenard. The deal includes Sol Oriens restaurant, The Thatch pub, golf school, Leix course, club house and the championship golf course, regarded as the finest Ballesteros championship course. It is understood the buyer is Irish-based.
“I have been NAMA’s auctioneer for the resort for some time. Over this period we sold a large number of residences on the resort for NAMA and it was becoming clear that the market was ready for the launch of the course,” said John Dunne.
“Last autumn I approached a large number of individuals, institutions and consortia from all over Ireland, which resulted in an outstanding offer from the eventual purchasers. It was very clear from day one that they saw the huge merit of this course and were very eager to secure it,” he said.
Hume Auctioneers and golf sales guru Marcus Magnier of Colliers International planned an extensive global campaign which netted a large number of enquiries particularly from Asia and America. However the initial Irish bid was so strong it staved off all international competition.
“It is a massive deal,” said Mr Dunne. “ When you consider the number of golf courses around the country which are for sale and going nowhere it highlights how good an asset this is and how good a sale it was. We had an outstanding receiver in John McStay who got everything including his timing spot on and treated members and staff with great respect and integrity. We were all delighted to save the jobs, that was tremendous.”
Mr Dunne went on to say he was extremely impressed with the buyers, who made it clear from day one that they saw the huge qualities and merits of the course and wanted to keep it operating as the world class facility it is.
The consortium who have purchased the property wish to rename anonymous, but have expressed their intention to keep all staff and maintain the golf course.
