A Portlaoise man has been fined for a public order offence, after he drunkenly jumped from his bedroom window and had to be arrested for his own safety.

Craig O’Hora, 4 Wellview Terrace, New Road, Portlaoise, was charged with being intoxicated in a public place, at James Fintan Lalor Avenue, Portlaoise, on November 25.

Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence that following an argument at the family home, O’Hora was seen jumping from his bedroom window and running away. When approached by gardaí, he became very aggressive. Insp Farrelly said he was highly intoxicated with slurred speech, and was highly emotional and distressed.

“He was arrested for his own safety,” said the inspector.

O’Hora has five previous convictions.

Defence, Mr Declan Breen said his client had an addiction to drink and drugs at the time.

“He’s constitutionally incapable of taking a drink,” said Mr Breen.

Defence said that O’Hora had been asked to leave his parents house on the night, and jumped out the window.

O’Hora was fined €100.
