A Laois man in his 40s was last week charged with 62 sexual offences in the Mountmellick area, dating back over 30 years.
Garda Aishling Colclough read the charge sheet numbers into the court record and said that when charged, the man made no reply.
The offences date from 1982 to 2009, and there are seven injured parties.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was released on bail with conditions that he must reside at the Morning Star Hostel in Dublin, he must sign on three days a week at the Bridewell Garda Station, and he must have no contact with the injured parties or any witnesses in the case. He was also ordered to surrender his passport.
Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick came on record as his defence. The matter has gone back to February 27 for a book of evidence.
