Meeting to spell out what reform is about

Free event takes place this week in Portlaoise to help communities understand the new local government reform process.

Laois has also been selected as a pilot local authority for establishment of citizen participation measures in local government reform.

The Laois environmental group LEAF and the Presentation Justice Network are hosting the seminar on the evening of Monday, April 14 at 7pm in Treo Nua Portlaoise.

Guest speakers on the evening will be Sean Healy, Director of Social Justice Ireland and Michael Ewing, Coordinator of the Environmental Pillar, both of whom were on the national Citizen Engagement working group.

Leaf say the event will present the plans for citizen engagement in local government reform leaving plenty of time to answer questions.

“This event is vital for gaining insight into recent reform and the role of the citizen in local governance. The people will have a greater say in decision making at municipal and local authority level. It is important that they engage with the process, from the start, to make it work,” says LEAF.

Refreshments on the night. The event is being funded by and LEAF.
