More paperwork needed before White Horse River dredging

A meeting has taken place between local councillors, the area engineer and Parks and Wildlife to discuss a plan to progress the dredging of the White Horse river.

Speaking at the recent Borris-in-Ossory area meeting, senior executive engineer Brenda Cuddy said that paperwork has to be resubmitted before the river can be cleaned. She added that an ecology report must also be submitted. Cllr Brendan Phelan said that that was disappointing news.

“The ecology report could cost more than the whole job would cost,” he said.

However he was told by Ms Cuddy that the previous report completed by the council was prepared under the existing regime for Parks and Wildlife.

“We have dealt with Parks and Wildlife before and we are progressing with them. Our plan is to do the work subject to Parks and Wildlife,” he said.

Cllr John Joe Fennelly said that it was a problem. “We’ve had sandbags supplied to them recently, and we all know there’s a problem there”.
