A convicted murderer involved with Limerick gangs has received additional jail time after being caught with a mobile phone in prison.
30-year-old Christopher Costello, currently serving a life sentence for his part in the murder of Kieran Keane in Limerick in 2003, was discovered with a mobile phone in his cell at the Midlands Prison, Portlaoise, on December 29 last year.
Defence, Ms Anne Manning said that he had the phone to contact his family and daughter over the Christmas period.
Garda Edel Hanley, who charged Costello, accepted defence’s claim and said that Costello immediately handed the phone over when his cell was searched on the day.
“He does have a 13-year-old daughter,” said Garda Hanley.
Judge Catherine Staines imposed a sentence of one month on Costello.
