New gym for Portlaoise business park despite objection to noise

Permission has been given for a new gym in the Portlaoise business park, despite an objection from a local businessman who raised concerns over the noise generated.

Laois County Council have granted an application by 2Pointo S&C, to open a fitness facility and gym at unit B2 National Enterprise Park, Knockmay, Portlaoise.

The council ruled that the gym would be in accordance with planning regulations, subject to 2Pointo S&C paying €10,476 toward roads and amenities costs.

However, Mr Gerard Brown, proprietor of the fruit, vegetable and fish shop on Main Street, lodged a submission against the proposal, claiming that noise from the gym could affect his clients who are renting an adjacent unit.

Mr Brown has let unit B3, section 2, to a client, while 2Pointo S&C applied for permission at unit B2. The gym is currently in block 1 beside Mr Brown’s client, and it is claimed that his clients are already experiencing noise from the gym.

Laois County Council have now granted permission to 2Pointo S&C for the new gym.
