Laois escaped the worst of the devastating floods of the past fortnight, which caused hundreds of millions of euros in damage in coastal counties.
Chief Fire Officer Declan Power says there were no major floods.
“There were no houses flooded, or livestock affected. There was a bit of road flooding in Shanahoe. If there are any more storms we will be ready for them,” he said.
The fire service were kept busy removing fallen trees due to the storms, with one fall cutting off Mountmellick’s power supply for much of last Monday.
“There were brigades out in Ballinakill, Durrow and Rathdowney, all in south Laois,” said Mr Power.
Frost is forecast for the next three nights, but heavy rain and strong winds return on Friday, then cold and changeable for the weekend, according to Met Eireann.
