People are taking their life in their hands trying to cross the road at Lyster Square, according to outgoing councillor Kathleen O’Brien.

“It’s impossible to cross, particularly at weekends,” she said at County Hall, during a motion raised by Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald to install a traffic management plan for Lyster Square.

The council learned in a written reply from PJ Dempsey, road design, that the council consider Lyster Square to be generally working quite efficiently.

“I’m very disappointed, this is a huge issue,” said Cllr Fitzgerald. “Trying to get access is nearly impossible for the elderly and the disabled. I’m very, very disappointed in that reply.”
