Portlaoise businessman objects to new gym in business park

A Portlaoise businessman has objected to a proposed new gym in the local business park, as he claims noise from the gym could affect his clients who are renting an adjacent unit.

Mr Gerard Brown, proprietor of the fruit, vegetable and fish shop on Main Street, has lodged a submission with Laois County Council against a proposal by 2Pointo S&C.

2Pointo S&C have applied for permission to change the use of an existing light industrial/warehouse unit to a functional fitness facility and gym, at unit B2 National Enterprise Park, Knockmay, Portlaoise.

However, in his submission to the council Mr Brown explained that he has let a unit to a client in the business park who will have a four year contract at unit B3, section 2. 2Point S&C have applied for permission for their new gym in unit B2, and they are presently in block 1 beside Mr Brown’s client.

Mr Brown claimed that his clients are reluctant to move into B3 on account of the noise already being experienced from the gym.

A decision is now due from Laois County Council by July 3.
