Portlaoise CBS students hopeful as first round CAO offers come out this week

Excitement and nerves were building as the former pupils of St Mary’s CBS began to arrive last Wednesday August 13 to collect their leaving certificate results.

From 10am onwards, the young men lined up for the big brown envelope that would determine their fate for the coming year.

David Bartley from Portlaoise was one student who was pleasantly surprised by his results.

“I’m absolutely delighted. I got 520 points, so it’s much more than I expected. That should be enough for the CAO offers. I want to do Business and French in DCU,” he told the Leinster Express.

Robert Dowling from The Heath was also thrilled.

“I’m happy out with my results. It’s a great day for the parish! I got what I wanted, and now I’m hoping to do security in Kilkenny,” he said.

Eoin Phelan hopes to study science in the University of Limerick when CAO offers come out next week.

“I got all of my requirements for UL so fingers crossed,” he said.
