Portlaoise man who ‘caused difficulties for the gardaí’

A probation report has been ordered on a Portlaoise man who “caused some difficulties for the gardaí”.

John McEvoy, Rathnamanagh, Portlaoise, was charged with being intoxicated, using threatening behaviour, and refusing to give his name and address, at Portlaoise Garda Station on April 20.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said that McEvoy had been the victim of an assault on the night and jumped into a taxi, where an issue arose with the driver. The driver brought McEvoy to the garda station, where the defendant “caused some difficulties for the gardaí”.

There was also a separate charge of the possession of drugs, at 23 Borris Little, Portlaoise, on June 13 last year.

In relation to this, Ms Fitzpatrick said that McEvoy had struggled with a cannabis habit, but had “matured a little now”.
