Labour members from all over the country converge on Portlaoise this weekend for the annual Labour Youth Tom Johnson Summer School.
The mid-summer conference, at the Heritage Hotel from Friday June 20 to Sunday 22, takes on even greater significance for the party as it is also incorporate a final hustings and question and answer session for the leadership and deputy leadership candidates. The outcome will be determined on July 4.
Sen John Whelan will give the welcome address. The conference features a series of panel discussions and debates around this year’s topic, ‘Demanding Equality, Ensuring Progress for All.’
The keynote speaker is Prof Richard Wilkinson, an economist. Others to participate are Tom Healy, director of the Nevin Economic Research Institute. The event will also include a dinner and presentation of the Jim Kemmy Award.
