Principal Curtin ‘thrilled’

Mountmellick Community School principal Larry Curtin reported “excellent” results from his 94 Leaving Cert students this year.

“A lot of students are getting incredible results, they have done exceptionally well. It is a reflection on their ability and their hard work,” he said.

Praising the scores of top students Jennifer Dooley and Eoghan Quigley, he said all students seemed happy.

“We had a significant number of students gaining over 500 points, which is in keeping with the national average. I haven’t met any disappointed students yet. They are all absolutely thrilled with how they got on,” Mr Curtin said.

Extra study classes and tutorials by teachers helped with results.

“We give extra support every year, but this year the easter and mid-term study were very well attended again, and that assists all students to enhance their work,” he said.

“I am thrilled for all the students, and their teachers, and their parents who all worked so hard to help them get to this stage,” the principal said.

For those not happy with their results, he said many options were open to them.

“Like any other school, there are always some students not completely happy. There are a range of options, courses and offers. We have lots of staff who can give professional assistance to students through the different options,” he said.
