Laois County Council were told they need to do more to promote the county and what they were doing.
“There is an onus on the council to let a lot more people know what we’re doing,” Cllr Jerry Lodge said.
“We’ve made a huge investment in this county, there is a huge number of activites going on and I’d like a lot more people to be made aware of that.”
He suggested that a half page brochure on the county should be sent home with every school child in the county.
Cllr Mary Sweeney agreed: “We need to market ourselves better. Individuals sections of the council do a good job, but as a body we need to be promoting what we do.”
County Manager, Peter Carey agreed with the comments on having a stronger marketing approach.
“We have the website and we engage in social media, but I would like to see more in the way of education and informing young people about local government,” he said.
