Works at Rockview Estate in Portlaoise could soon be commencing, with the news that the last piece of outstanding paperwork has been sent from the receiver to Laois County Council.

Cllr Jerry Lodge has been informed by Laois County Council, that the long awaited financial document has come from the receiver. There are now no other outstanding items which means that the only thing to be agreed upon now is a start date for the works.

Warmly welcoming the news, Cllr Lodge said: “The residents of this estate have lived for a number of years in a totally neglected and unfinished estate, sometimes having to leave their cars abandoned as they were unable to reach their homes because of extremely poor inadequate roads.”

He praised the residents’ courage, patience and forbearance in tolerating this situation and thanked them for their continued support.

“Laois County Council have possession of the substantial bond currently in place for Rockview and while these works will take many months to complete, I firmly believe that Rockview will turn out to be one of the finest estates in the town when finished,” he said.

Cllr Jerry Lodge previously raised the issue at a meeting of the town council, when he vented his frustration at the receiver for not furnishing the council with a single document.

“It’s one of the hardest nuts to crack and that’s one of the last estates we haven’t managed to bring up to scratch,” he said. “I’d be putting the High Court onto the receiver, they haven’t furnished a single document to get the scheme underway.”

At that meeting, Cllr Caroline Dwane also praised the patience of the residents in Rockview, as they are “practically living on a building site”.
