Roundabouts going out of fashion

A final motion from retiring Cllr Paul Mitchell, for a roundabout at the junction of Main St and Crowe Lane in Port, fell on stoney ground.

There is no council money for “work of this nature”. Acting senior engineer Stan Cullen added that they are “shifting away from roundabouts to enhance pedestrian safety,” as instructed by the Dept of Transport.

“I believe in roundabouts, they are a brilliant solution to keeping traffic flowing,” said Cllr Mitchell.

Replying to well wishes from Cllr James Deegan, he quipped “There’s a film out, 12 Years a Slave”, I did ten. I didn’t know what went on, I still don’t, but I will miss the banter and the campaign.”
