Sad passing of former Laois State Solicitor, Reginald White

The funeral of one of the county’s best known solicitors took place at the Church of the Holy Rosary in Abbeyleix on Saturday, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

William Reginald (Reggie) White passed away at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise on Wednesday, February 5.

A former State Solicitor for county Laois, Mr White was known far and wide after a lifetime devoted to the legal profession. He was admitted to the role of solicitor in 1952 and worked for a period of time with JJ Nash Solicitors in Thurles, before setting up his own practice in Rathdowney and in due course succeeded his father William T White as State Solicitor. He never retired and worked up until the time he fell ill towards the end of 2013. He turned 84 years last November and held a practising certificate to the end of 2013, some 61 years.

His colleagues in the local legal profession said his passing would be a great loss, and they extended every sympathy to his family.

Mr White is survived by his wife Mary and six children Willie, David, Florence, Suzanne, Louise and Reg.
