Sentencing for concealing builder’s body

A GERMAN national who pleaded guilty to assisting with the removal and concealment of a man’s body is due to be sentenced next week.

Joachim Pohl (28) with an address at 12 Linton Place, Kilkenny pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court, last year, to knowing/or believing Armin Wielderhold, of the same address, committed an offence and pleaded to assisting with the removal and concealment of the body of Mr Thomas Thompson of Borris Road, Portlaoise on the 20th-21st April 2007.

He also pleaded guilty to the removing of the personal affects of Mr Thomas from his house.

Mr Thomas (59) was originally from Yorkshire in England and had worked as a plastering contractor in Ireland for several years. He was found in a shallow grave in woodlands in Dysart, outside Portlaoise less than a year after his disappearance.

A small wooden cross still marks the spot where the remains of Mr Thompson were recovered on January 22, 2008, just off a scenic woodland walk a short distance from Portlaoise town
