Smuggled in phone to prison

A prisoner in the Midlands Prison has been given a suspended sentence for smuggling in a mobile phone.

Paul Byrne was returning to the prison from hospital on September 19 last year, when he was detected with the phone.

Garda Conor Murphy accepted defence, Mr Declan Breen’s claim that Byrne was under pressure to bring in the item.

Byrne was given a three-month sentence, consecutive, suspended for one year.
