Still no footpath funding

There is still no funding to fix footpaths in the Western area, despite area engineers requesting it on a number of occasions.

Acting senior executive engineer Brenda Cuddy told councillors at the recent Borris in Ossory electoral area meeting that, along with the previous area engineer, she has been requesting additional funding for footpaths in the Western area for some time.

“I support this but ultimately it is not my decision”, she said.

Cllr John King asked that the council makes a provision of €300,000 available in their budget to repair and replace footpaths in all of the towns and villages in the Western area.

“Numerous paths in the area are becoming a safety issue. There has been no money spent in the last year. This is not very much money when you see the work that has to be done”, he told councillors at the meeting.
