Still no start on Rockview work three weeks on

Three weeks on from the news that all the paperwork is in order to finish Rockview estate in Portlaoise and Laois County Council have still not commenced any works.

At County Hall last week, in reply to a request from Cllr Jerry Lodge concerning the delay on both Rockview and Garden Village, the planning department gave much the same reply as was given at the January town council meeting.

“The delay in commencing work in Rockview was due to documentation which was required to be submitted by the receiver,” explained Ms Angela McEvoy, in a written reply. “This documentation has now been submitted to Laois County Council and the planning section will revert to the town council with a start date.”

“Three weeks later and still the work has not commenced,” observed Cllr Lodge.

“I thought we would have a start date for Rockview,” said Cllr Caroline Dwane. “I hope it’s fast-forwarded as soon as possible, I would like to see those dangerous manholes prioritised, and there’s a light banging against someone’s house.”

Cllr Dwane said that outstanding issues in Garden Village include the pumping station and the green area at the back.

The reply from Ms McEvoy also revealed that in relation to Garden Village, revised EU regulations specify that works exceeding €25,000 must go to tender, and as Garden Village exceeds this amount the works must be advertised and it is hoped to commence works by March.
