A suspended prison sentence of six months was imposed on a Portarlington woman for an assault on another woman.
Mary Duff, 64 Kilmalogue Lawns, Portarlington was charged with assault at that location on January 2, 2013.
The court heard the defendant assaulted the woman and pulled her hair. Both parties had a lot of alcohol taken, Inspector Aidan Farrelly told the court.
Judge Catherine Staines noted the defendant’s “extremely difficult upbringing” and the tragic death of the father of her five children. She also noted that the assault on the victim had “drastically affected her life and her career”.
Defence solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client had been going through a difficult period and had become “paranoid” in relation to the victim. She now no longer drinks to excess and poses no threat to the victim.
