With the contract for Ballacolla post office becoming vacant, Fine Gael’s John Finlay is calling on An Post to safeguard this vital service in the community.
Mr Finlay said that losing the Post office in Ballacolla would “tear the heart out of the local community.”
“It is crucial that An Post maintains this service in the locality. An Post should take a stand to honour their commitment to continue to invest in their post office network, especially in rural areas,” he said.
The Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick area candidate claimed that the post office binds the community together and may be the only point of contact for some people. If this link is broken, with the closure of Ballacolla Post Office, the candidate said that it is “an attack on a rural community”.
Mr Finlay spoke highly of how the local community were making a conscious decision to support Ballaoclla Post office. He acknowledged the need for the support of all local interested parties to make a strong case for the need for the office in the locality.
“The local Post Office is vital for the well being and vibrancy of Ballacolla and should not close,” he said.
