Three-year driving disqualification

A Stradbally man has been put off the road for three years, after being convicted of drink driving.

Before last week’s Portlaoise District Court was David Devoy, with an address listed at 26 Woodview, Stradbally.

He was charged with exceeding the alcohol limit, at Well Road, Portlaoise, on December 28, 2012.

Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence that Devoy was detected with 297mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine.

Devoy has no previous convictions.

Judge John Coughlan disqualified Devoy from driving for three years. He also fined him €75.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick asked the judge would he consider postponing the disqualification, as Devoy is a carer for his mother.

Judge Coughlan postponed the disqualification for six months.
