Weights stolen from GAA club in Arles-Killeen

Weightlifting equipment stolen from a local GAA club was among the property taken by thieves in a number of separate burglaries to have occurred across Laois in the past week.

A garda spokesperson has confirmed that last Tuesday, April 22, metal weightlifting equipment was stolen from the Arles-Killeen GAA club.

On Wednesday, April 23, a house on Coote Street, Portlaoise, was broken into. The occupant was at home at the time and heard a noise, but when they came downstairs the thieves were gone and property had been taken.

There were three burglaries on Friday, April 25. A vacant apartment on Main Street, Portarlington, was broken into, although nothing was taken. In Donaghmore, Rathdowney, a business premises was broken into when thieves gained entry by smashing a side window, although no property was taken. And some time between 2.40am and 11am on April 25, a hardware shop on the Mountrath Road, Abbeyleix, was broken into and a quantity of lead stolen.

Finally, on Sunday, April 27, an unoccupied house in St Brigid’s Place was broken into between 4.30pm and 11pm and a mobile phone taken.
