‘Work on the ground’ pays off

Work is the reason why Sinn Féin believe they have held a seat in Portlaoise, according to Cllr Caroline Dwaine Stanley.

The party mixed ambition with cautiousness by running two candidates but it had to settle for one seat.

Cllr Dwane Stanley says

“I have been working very hard over the past three years and have got into areas at a grass roots level. There is no doubt but the ground had been ploughed before me and I had a base to work on,” she said.

The councillor said water charges, the property taxes and unemployment were the big issues.

She said running two candidates was always planned and the party now had a base in the Abbeyleix area.
