€200k counterfeit charge

A MAN has appeared in Portlaoise District Court charged with having counterfeit goods valued in excess of €200,000.

Zahid Chaudry, with an address listed at Castle Drive, Kilminchy, Portlaoise, faced two charges of being in possession of goods for sale resembling trademark goods, and one charge of having goods without the consent of the copyright owner.

Garda Detective Pat Donovan told the court that the goods in question were counterfeit clothes. He estimated the total cost of goods in excess of €200,000, which would have been the loss to the genuine copyright holders.

Chaudry was remanded on continual bail to February 19 next year, for Judge Staines to decide on jurisdiction.
