40 year delay on HSE land deal

It has taken more than four decades for the HSE take ownership of land from Laois County Council.

The six pieces of council owned land on which health centres are built, are being transferred to the HSE it emerged at a recent Laois County Council meeting.

The lands, totalling 0.7 hectares, are located in Emo, Borris-in-Ossory, Ballyroan, Errill, Timahoe and Clonaslee. Councillors agreed to dispose of them to the HSE for a nominal fee of €1 each.

The properties had been due to transfer under S36 of the 1970 Health Act, but were omitted at that time.

“The HSE have been in occupation of these properties since 1970 and it is now intended to transfer the title to the HSE,” their spokesperson said.
