8,430 non-nationals

8,430 non-Irish nationals were living in Laois at the time of the Census, accounting for 10.5% of the population of the county compared to 12% for the State as a whole.

According to figures released by the Central Statistics Office, of the non-Irish nationals resident in the county, 2,299 were Polish nationals – the largest non-irish nationality in the county, followed by UK nationals with 1,693 persons.

The results show that of the 53,267 persons who arrived in Ireland in the year prior to April 2011, 495 were living in Laois. Of these 298 or 60.2 per cent were non-irish nationals.
