LaOIS County Council is owed €9 million in development levies, rates and commercial water charges, according to audit reports.

The reports indicated that the financial position of neighbouring local authorities in OFfaly and Kilkenny has deteriorated, despite warning from the Department of the Environment to get their budgets to balance.

The crisis in local autorities has become so acute that it is now believed that many councils are now relying on overdrafts and bank loans to meet day to day expense.
