All-Ireland scuppers Clonaslee Show
ORGANISERS of the Clonaslee Show have blamed not the weather for their decision to cancel this year’s show, but something that could prove even more tempestuous: the All-Ireland hurling final.
Chairperson of the committee, Mr Niall Bourke has said that the main reason for the last minute cancellation of this year’s show was that it clashed with this Sunday’s final between Kilkenny and Galway.
“We were afraid it would affect the turn out,” he said. “Our members are big GAA enthusiasts.”
Mr Bourke said the committee were afraid to go ahead with the show as the loss of visitors due to the hurling final could damage potential revenue.
“Funds are a central issue. The show is non-profit making and we have to fundraise just to get our heads above water,” he said.
