Ban bin lorries after 9am

The Chairperson of Portlaoise Town Council wants bin lorries banned from Main Street after 9am.

“On New Year’s day the traffic was held up for twenty minutes, going down the town at twenty to one. We should talk to the companies and ask them,” Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald suggested at the recent TC meeting, where she proposed that the council bring in bye-laws to enforce the rule.

The council response was that no legislation existed to allow such a bye-law.

Cllr Jerry Lodge agreed.

“We should include delivery lorries,” he said.
