Be vigilant of ‘high powered cars’

Portlaoise Guards are uring people to be extra vigilant following a number of burglaries at the weekend.

“Be vigilant of high powered cars with a number of people in them,” a garda spokesperson said.

They also advised people to report any car in the area with a suspicious number plate or acting suspiciously.

“Although there was a number of burglaries around the county, there was no speific pattern to them,” the spokesperson said.

They are still investigating an incident in Mountmellick last week when a lone Garda was faced down a gang of armed raiders who were on an overnight rampage stretching from Carlow to Offaly.

“If someone was passing a forecourt and seen a car stopped outside, it wouldn’t be any harm to put a call into the station,” the spokesperson added.
