Bus service decision looms

A decision is looming on whether a permanent bus service can be restored to south Laois.

The closing date for applicants to the National Transport Authority to tender for licence to service the Urlingford, Johnstown, Cullahill Durrow, Abbeyleix, Portlaoise route is Friday, August 31.

Campaigner for ther restoration of the bus service Michael G Phelan said that all submissions will be considered by the NTA in the first week of Septmeber.

After this he said a final decision would be made whether a permanent service should be put in place. Mr Phelan said at that point a meeting will be called to inform the public.

The campaigner said the shuttle service currently in opperation will continue until the end of September.
