Candlelight vigil in Portlaoise for missing Aofe Phelan

Hundreds of people have gathered in Portlaoise in a candlelight vigil held for the missing Laois woman Aoife Phelan.
Aoife, who is aged 30 and four months pregnant, was last seen at a friend’s house at 8.10pm at Colliers View, in the town on Thursday, October 25.
Family and friends of Aoife were among those who took part in the vigil held in the hope that Aoife would make contact or that further information may emerge about her whereabouts. Speaking at the vigil on Thursday night, November 1, Betty Phelan, Aoife’s mother, pleaded with her daughter to make contact.
“If you are out there somewhere, it doesn’t matter what trouble [you are in] or anything, we are a strong family, we will be there for you and we love you,” she said.
Gardai are continuing their search for the woman. Checkpoints were mounted last night and there have also been searches and door-to-door enquiries in Portlaoise and Mountmellick.
However, more than a week since she dissappeared there is still not trace.
Gardai say that Aoife, who is a native of Cashel, Ballyroan, near Portlaoise, met a friend at the Borris Road Roundabout in Portlaoise at about 6.30 pm on Thursday, October 25 and was last seen at 8.10 p.m. when she left a friends house at Colliers View, Portlaoise. She was employed as a live in au pair at The Hermitage, Portlaoise and was in work until 6.15 p.m. on that evening.
She is described as being approximately 5’7’’ in height, slim build, has long blonde/sandy coloured hair and blue eyes. When last seen she was wearing stone washed/light coloured jeans and a knitted jumper. She was also wearing a red sleeveless jacket with a fur trimmed hood and black boots. She may have been wearing a silver necklace and a watch with a black strap.
