Cart before horse on car insurance
A PORTLAOISE man who “put the cart before the horse” by driving a car he had just bought without first getting proper documentation was last week fined and disqualified from driving.
Eugene Lacumber, of 6 Parnell Crescent, Portlaoise, was stopped driving at the Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise, on March 24. He had no licence or insurance and was displaying a false tax disc on the vehicle.
Lacumber has seven previous convictions, including one for no insurance.
“He had just bought the car, but he put the cart before the horse,” said defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick. “He was doing some work on it and then he was going to get the documents.”
Ms Fitzpatrick explained that her client had taken a short spin on the day, when he met the gardaí. She added that the false disc, which covered a different vehicle, had been on the car when he bought it.
For no insurance Lacumber was fined €400 and disqualified from driving for four years. He was also fined €100 for no driving licence.
