Cash to clean White Horse
THE White Horse River in Mountrath will be cleaned to prevent flooding in 2013 if the money neded is approved by the National Parks and Wildlife Service,
The issue was raised it was heard at the recent Borris-in- Ossory electoral area meeting.
Cllr Michael Lalor requested the river be cleaned said flooding was not a matter of if, but when. “There was funding all year, we’re talking about whose house is going to be flooded next year”. He was echoed by Cllr John Joe Fennelly. “This was supposed to be done months ago, we should meet with Parks and Wildlife”.
“You can’t ignore the law of the land, you have to get permits. Can you give me a commitment that parks and wildlife will give a permit? This is coming directly from Peter Carey, do not touch a river without a permit. This is the third year in a row we haven’t got a permit”, replied Michael Malone, senior executive engineer with Laois County Council.
