Cllr Whelan takes chair
Cllr Rosemary Whelan, its youngest member, was unanimously elected Cathaoirleach of Mountmellick Town Council last week, succeeding the late Cllr Pat Bowe.
Though a Fine Gaeler, she was proposed and seconded for the position by two Fianna Failers, Cllrs Marc Connolly and Paddy Bracken.
To the latter went the post of Leas Cathaoirleach. He was proposed by Cllr Denis O’Mara (FF), seconded by Cllr Connolly.
Cllr Whelan was Leas Cathaoirleach during Cllr Bowe’s term in office. He died unexpectedly earlier this year.
