Clonaslee Garda Station ‘a good chance’

Garda Inspector Martin Harrington believes that Clonaslee Garda Station has “a good chance of staying open” because of its remote location.

He was answering a question posed by Cllr Rosemary Whelan at last Thursday’s public policing meeting in Mountmellick, if the station will remain open.

“At the moment that is not being considered. That’s not to say in a month or two months we won’t get a list to say it is closing, it happened like that in Geashill. But the likes of Geashill didn’t have a Garda attached. There are stations where a guard will come out and open them. Clonaslee however has a Garda attached. The fact that it is remote is also in its favour. Personally speaking, because of its location, I think it has a good chance of staying open,” Inspt Harrington said.
